Crime: Conspiracy to overthrow the King; attempted murder of the Crown Princess

Background: Long ago, triplet gods decided to come together to make something beautiful, and their earth was made. Dia, the goddess of the sun and sky, Erus, the god of the ground and Aruna, the goddess of the ocean. They combines their powers to make creatures and plants to populate each space, but it was Aruna, the youngest of the siblings, that made intelligent life first. Her merpeople were tasked to tend to her oceans, protecting the other beasts that roamed there, and just living. Dia was next. She loved what her sister had done, and after watching how the plants and trees reached so high in the sky for her love and attention, she created the ardaya, an intelligent being that came from those very plants that basked in her sunlight. But Erus grew jealous of these beings his sisters made, and pulled from the dirt his own intelligent life: humans. He tasked them to mind his lands and tend to his earth, but his jealousy seeped into his people. Humans could never be satisfied. They wanted more land, crossing oceans to seek out new lands to claim more, and more, and more.

When humanity first came across ardaya, it was peaceful. The ardaya had built tall towers out of stone, earth, and vines, continuing to reach towards the sunshine of their creator. They welcomed humans to their lands, teaching them better ways to cultivate crops and survive off the land. They traded, worked together, and even shared cities for a time. Some even bonded and intermarried. But the magic of the ardaya people left the humans afraid. And as with all things, this fear eventually led to chaos.

The humans came together and attacked the ardaya, killing many of them, and those that survived, disappeared. Or so humanity thought. But trying to end what they feared didn't put an end to the magic. Enough magic had entered the human lines that humans began to show signs of magic. Years passed, and magic never went away, but in human hands, it was alright. Welcomed, even, by some. Humanity used it to continue to grow their lands, build their towers and palaces, and keep other humans in line.

But what they didn't know was the ardaya never really went away. Many learned to use their magic to appear human, and stayed with humanity, not wanting to abandon places they considered their homes. The others created a home deep in the woods, using their magic to hide it from humanity, isolating themselves in the old and tallest trees.

Vincent was just a child when humanity came for them. He watched his people's homes burn, he watched them be stricken down as him and his family ran for their lives. They escaped, finding a home in the trees.

As he aged, he watched the world from the forests, watching humanity fight themselves over the littlest bit of magic and power, watched them kill their own people for their own personal gain, and he hated them. His own magic grew, and after three hundred years, he swore he would never let anyone he loved close to humanity if he could help it.

But his daughter, Willow was stubborn and thought humanity deserved a chance, that if they learned, they could be different. It took Vincent's wife, Rewa, stepping in to convince her husband to let their daughter adventure out, and so she did. And Willow loved humanity. So much so, she brought home a human she met and fell in love with: a prince, with promises to reunite humanity and ardaya. While Vincent didn't like it, he saw how happy his daughter was, and blessed their marriage.

Only Vincent had been right. This human had realized Willow was different, and used her to gain access to the ardaya's home. He learned everything he could about their defenses and secrets, and bided his time. Willow bore him an heir, and when the timing was right, after taking the throne for his own, he killed his wife, and launched an attack on the ardaya's home. Many died that day, including Vincent's wife. The King claimed the ardaya cursed his wife and child, and while his child remained ill, his wife didn't survive, only angering the people to his side.

Once again, the Ardaya had to flee, settling in a different city in the woods. Vincent hated humans more than ever. But as he watched what the King proceeded to do, trying to exterminate all magic in the kingdom, he realized it wasn't humans that were the problem. It was greed, and jealously. Not everyone was guilty and deserved to be punished for the actions of a few. From there, he started to coordinate a resistance, helping to free those the King tried to have killed, fighting back against his Hunters, and working with anyone with magic: human, merpeople, or ardaya. For the last twenty years, he's sought the freedom of all kinds, and the end of this persecution. Now aided by his granddaughter, Rosalina, who was hated and forced into isolation by her father due to her budding magic, Vincent can see a light at the end of the tunnel. Maybe the King could be stopped after all.

Personality: Growing up with years of on and off fighting with humans made Ven mature quickly. He's always been very protective of his people, given he has gifts that better allow him to keep them safe. Even when he was young, he was quick to pick up a sword and fight for what he believed in. When he cares about something, you better believe you won't be able to get between him and that thing.

Ven has always been very charismatic. When he was young, he was definitely a flirt. Being able to read minds gives you the ability to say and do just the right thing to get on someone's good side. He's always used that to his advantage, sweet talking the girl, or convincing an elder to follow his ideas. But even for his quick wit, he follows through with his actions, getting results and earning respect from others. It makes sense, then, why he eventually rose ranks through his people and eventually became the trusted Guardian of his home.

While being a good leader, his compassion for his people and loved ones is almost to a fault. He would sacrifice anything for them, and nearly got himself killed trying to rescue his granddaughter. When he learned his only remaining family member was still alive, he stopped at nothing to find her again, putting his own life in danger, blinded by what he felt was right in that moment. He takes risks that other leaders wouldn't, because sacrificing someone else so he could live could never be the right call for him. He would rather take the hit than stand by and let someone else.

Ven is definitely stubborn. When he decides on a path, it's hard to talk him down. He gets tunnel vision, only seeing his path, which he rarely will admit is wrong. As he's gotten older and lost so much, he's trying to be a bit open minded, but it's still hard for him to compromise on his beliefs. But while he may be hard to redirect, he does take his time coming to those decisions. He likes to have all the variables and details that he came before he makes a harsh choice, taking into consideration everyone that may be affected by his actions.

Ven has a heart for those in need. Especially children, given he lost his own. After all the suffering and pain his people had been through over his many years, he wants nothing more than peace. He wants his people to be able to live without fear. While it's taken him a long time to come to terms with humanity, he's finally started to realize that not all humans are evil. Some humans are just like his people, treated horribly for things out of their control. And for that reason, he's made it a point to welcome anyone oppressed or in fear of harm. He's made his home into a safe haven for all, and he wants to protect it at all costs.

Abilities: Vincent is a nature spirit called a wisp. In their natural form, wisps are green, with pointed ears, and have characteristics of a specific plant. In his case, this plant is hemlock. As a wisp, Vincent has a bond with nature. He's technically a plant, made of cellulose, but with working organs, and his own circulatory and nervous system. He mainly survives off photosynthesis, like other plants, and while it's not necessarily required for survival, he can eat what humans would consider food. He does require water intake, though.. He is able to connect to plants, feel their energy, and basically "talk to trees", if you will. He can boost growth in plants and summon vines or other plants when needed, or even the opposite. He can cause plants to die, or drain their energy in to himself.

Wisps can shapeshift to look human, something they had to learn to do when humans began hunting them. It became a way from them to blend in with other humans when necessary. Ven is able to appear as a middle age man with shaggy blonde hair when he so desires, and shift back to his nature form at will.

Wisps also develop a specialized magic, unique to each wisp, and derived from the plant they mimic. In Ven's case, he's telepathic, allowing him to read minds. If pressed, he can manipulate memories, create visions, or use other's mind to witness far away events or conversations. In very rare occasions, he can even disrupt the central nervous system and cause death or severe injury.

Inventory: A magic wooden sword that can meld to his body and be pulled out as desired. The blade and handle are all organic, but are treated with magic so the blade is as sharp and strong as any metal.

Samples: sample 1 | sample 2

Questions: Given Ven's telepathy, I understand there with be limitations. I already plan to have a waver for players, but I'm curious, if anything, would Ven be able to read anything from locals? Or would he be unable to peer into any of their minds? Thanks!
